Keeping it Clean

I’ve often wished books were rated with the same warnings on the back of the book as movies… PG-13 due to violence, light language, and some sexual innuendos.

We can tell ourselves that the “poison of pornography”[i] doesn’t apply to books… we can also tell ourselves that 1 + 1 = 3… we can say it all we want, but it won’t ever be true.

Dr. Cline a clinical psychologist and associate professor of psychology explains that even the most stable, together person alive will still be affected by the seeds of pornography. In ways it is more addictive than drugs or alcohol.

If an author cannot write a story without including “counterfeit sex”[ii] then they aren’t much of a writer. If a writer feels they can’t express love and emotion without a sex scene then they aren’t worth reading.

Sadly, talented authors often fill their books with graffiti, painting scenes that are toxic to our brains.

So, put it down. Who says you have to finish the book?

Elder Dallin H. Oaks from the quorum of the 12 apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints said this:

“Pornographic or erotic stories and pictures are worse than filthy or polluted food. The body has defenses to rid itself of unwholesome food. With a few fatal exceptions, bad food will only make you sick but do no permanent harm. In contrast, a person who feasts upon filthy stories or pornographic or erotic pictures and literature records them in this marvelous retrieval system we call a brain. The brain won’t vomit back filth. Once recorded, it will always remain subject to recall, flashing its perverted images across your mind and drawing you away from the wholesome things in life.”

And I sorta just wanna shout AMEN! Haha! What a perfect analogy and again, if we think we aren’t engaging in such poisonous activities because it’s in the form of book, we’re so wrong.

Protect yourself. Protect your family.

Read clean!

**I would love to have a section on this site devoted to reviews of literature that are clean and worth the read. I have rated books over the years, but it's still not a ton! If you have any books you'd like to offer a clean and entertaining review for message me and I'll add it to the list!
